What is Reiki?
Reiki is a form of alternative therapy that originated in Japan in the early 20th century. It involves the practitioner channeling energy to promote healing and balance in the recipient. The word "Reiki" is derived from two Japanese words: "rei," meaning "universal," and "ki," meaning "life energy."
During a typical session, the recipient usually lies down fully clothed while the practitioner lightly places their hands on or near the body. The goal is to facilitate the flow of energy, helping to reduce stress, promote relaxation, and support emotional and physical healing. Many people find Reiki to be a soothing and calming experience, often reporting feelings of deep relaxation or emotional release.
While scientific evidence on its effectiveness is mixed, many individuals and practitioners believe in its benefits, often using it as a complementary approach alongside conventional medical treatments.
In a Reiki session, you can typically expect the following:
Initial Consultation: The session usually begins with a brief discussion about your needs and any specific areas of concern.
Setting the Atmosphere: The practitioner may create a calming environment with soft lighting, soothing music, or aromatherapy to enhance relaxation.
Lying Down: You will generally lie down fully clothed, making sure you’re comfortable. You can choose to lie on a massage table or a comfortable surface. You can also receive Reiki seated, or however you are most comfortable.
Hand Positions: The practitioner will place their hands lightly on or near your body in various positions. They may work on specific areas or allow energy to flow freely throughout your body.
Relaxation Experience: Many people feel deep relaxation during the session. You might experience sensations like warmth, tingling, or a sense of lightness.
Duration: Sessions typically last between 45 minutes to one hour.
Aftercare Discussion: At the end of the session, we may discuss our experience and any insights or feelings that came up. You may receive recommendations on how to integrate the experience into your daily life.
Post-Session Feelings: Afterward, you might feel relaxed, centered, or even a bit tired, as the body processes the energy work.
Is Reiki safe?
